Bents Introduce Suttons New Grafted Vegetable Plants

    (03/03/2010)

For decades, commercial nurseries have produced crops from grafted plants and have benefited from the significantly higher fruit yields these plants give with lower energy and pest and disease control costs. Now Suttons Seeds, the world famous seedsmen to HM The Queen, have perfected this grafting technique to bring all these benefits to the amateur gardener for the first time and Bents has been selected to be one of the first garden centres in the UK to stock Suttons New Grafted Vegetable Plants.

But what makes Grafted Vegetable Plants so special? It’s all in the roots! Suttons skillfully graft excellent, tasty varieties onto strong rootstocks which have been specially selected to produce extremely vigorous root systems giving healthy plants which produce up to *70% more crop than standard plants!

Suttons Grafted Plants also have greater resistance to disease and pest attacks, and are less susceptible to plant nutritional disorders meaning you have to rely significantly less on chemical treatments to remedy problems.

Suttons Grafted Plants also perform well with less or no heat in the greenhouse, saving you energy and money. They even have an excellent performance when grown outdoors and produce fruit over a much longer period than standard plants. These extremely vigorous plants are best grown in single containers, no smaller than 30cms (12”) in diameter, or in grow bags, but no more than 2 plants to a bag. Once the first trusses of fruit are formed, regular feeding with a good quality tomato feed such as Suttons new Powerfood is essential for large crops of tasty fruit.

Bents will be offering 4 varieties of Suttons New Grafted Tomato plants (Cherry; Standard; Beefsteak and Plum types); 2 Sweet Peppers, a Chilli Pepper and an excellent Aubergine.

These very special plants arrive at our garden centre during the week ending 23 April but stocks will be limited so we advise you to check availability.
