The Mayor of Warrington has returned to Bents Garden & Home in Glazebury to help plant daffodil bulbs in the Centre’s Field of Hope. The event also provided an opportunity for Bents to announce its most successful fundraising total ever; a fantastic £7000 has been raised for its 2009 charity of the year, Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Bents has been fundraising for Marie Curie Cancer Care’s local nursing services all year and as part of its campaign has been selling daffodil bulbs to create the Field of Hope. The Field, which has now been planted, will be a lasting memorial to the lives of local people living with Cancer when it flowers next Spring.
Cllr Brian Axcell, the Mayor of Warrington said: “The figure announced by Bents is fantastic amount of money and knowing it will be used for the benefit of local people is very pleasing. I was delighted to be able to help with the Field of Hope as it is a great way for people to remember loved ones and for Bents to have a lasting reminder of such a great year.”
Bents’ Marie Curie Field of Hope has been planted on land donated by the Forestry Commission to the rear of the Centre. It is located at the finishing point of Bents’ Walk in the Woods, the special children’s walk that was launched with the Forestry Commission earlier this year. Picnic benches are perfectly positioned for visitors to enjoy the scene as the daffodils return every year.
Says Matthew Bent, MD of Bents Garden & Home: “We are absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity of our customers this year. This is the largest fundraising total we have ever had and I am very proud to be able to be able to announce a figure currently standing at £7000.00. We have still got another month left, so by the new year it might be even more.
“We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has donated throughout the year and to all the colleagues at Bents who helped organize events which have contributed to this fantastic figure.”
Anne Marie Wynne, Community Fundraiser for Marie Curie added: ‘I would like to thank all the staff and customers of Bents Garden and Home for everything they have done to help achieve it. There is enough money to fund a whole night’s care for a terminally ill patient everyday for over a month. It will make a massive difference to people who need our care.’
