Planting
Cultivation is best grown in moist but well-drained soil in part shade although tolerant of sun if soil remains moist. Will require cuttings in early Summer and in Winter. Suggested planting locations are in gardens and flower borders and beds. Should be exposed or sheltered to sun dependent on soil moistness. Compact, perfect for pots and even baskets.
Aftercare
Hardy in the UK, frost can cause a lot of damage to young buds, reducing the number of flowers, so it's advisable to protect your plant with fleece if freezing weather is likely. Pests can be a problem such as capsid bugs and vine weevil should be monitored. Diseases may be subject to leaf spot on the plant as it is woody - this may show in grey moulds, powdery mildews or honey fungus and should be treated accordingly. May cause mild stomach upset if ingested, contact with foliage may aggravate skin allergies.
Pruning
Hydrangeas can be pruned back hard in the summer to remove dead material and to stimulate fresh strong new growth from the base which will produce the best flowers. Wear gloves and other protective equipment when handling.
