Hydrangea macrophylla Mophead Red 5L

The Hydrangea macrophylla 'Mophead Red' is a stunning variety known for its vibrant red blooms. Hydrangea macrophylla, commonly known as mophead hydrangea, is a popular garden plant known for its large, round flower clusters. The flowers are typically red, but in more acidic soils, they can take on a purplish hue. This deciduous shrub typically grows to about 2 to 4 feet tall and wide. It blooms in the summer and can rebloom throughout the season. The Mophead Red Hydrangea is perfect for adding a splash of color to your garden. It can be used as a focal point, in borders, or even in containers 

Hardy in the UK, frost can cause a lot of damage to young buds, reducing the number of flowers, so it's advisable to protect your plant with fleece if freezing weather is likely. Pests can be a problem such as capsid bugs and vine weevil should be monitored. Diseases may be subject to leaf spot on the plant as it is woody - this may show in grey moulds, powdery mildews or honey fungus and should be treated accordingly. May cause mild stomach upset if ingested, contact with foliage may aggravate skin allergies. 

Hydrangeas can be pruned back hard in the summer to remove dead material and to stimulate fresh strong new growth from the base which will produce the best flowers. Wear gloves and other protective equipment when handling.
