Photinia × fraseri 'Carré Rouge' is a compact, evergreen shrub known for its striking foliage and attractive appearance. This shrub grows up to 1.5 meters tall and wide. It has glossy, lanceolate leaves that are brilliant red when young, turning dark green as they mature. In spring, it produces panicles of small, creamy-white flowers.
It thrives in fertile, humus-rich soil and can be planted in full sun or partial shade. It prefers moist but well-drained soil. It is hardy in most parts of the UK, tolerating temperatures down to -15°C. Regular pruning helps maintain its shape and encourages new red foliage. It can be pruned hard in spring if necessary.
This plant is ideal for hedging, screens, and as a feature in flower borders and beds. It is also suitable for city and courtyard gardens.
