Salix integra 'Hakuro Nishiki', also known as the dappled willow or variegated willow, is a stunning deciduous shrub known for its colourful foliage and graceful form. This shrub features narrow, lance-shaped leaves that emerge pink in spring, maturing to variegated shades of pink, creamy white, and green. The stems turn red in fall, providing excellent winter interest. It typically grows to a height of 4-6 feet (1.2-1.8 meters) and spreads about 5-7 feet (1.5-2.1 meters).
It thrives in moist, fertile, well-drained soils and can be planted in full sun to part shade. It prefers consistently moist soils but can tolerate somewhat drier conditions better than many other willows.
Regular pruning helps maintain its shape and encourages new colorful foliage. Prune once or twice during the growing season for a flush of colorful new growth.
This plant is ideal for hedges, rain gardens, and as a specimen or in small groups. It is also suitable for erosion control and wet areas
