Shrubs

These, whether evergreen or deciduous, are evident all year round and provide the structural backbone to the garden. They may be bought for their flowers but these, at best, last a few weeks. For the rest of the year the plant contributes foliage and shape. Shrubs come in all sizes from prostrate forms to plants several metres high. Larger shrubs are often like small trees. Shrubs with a distinctive shape can be used as a feature, perhaps in a lawn. It is possible to grow a group of shrubs together, perhaps several layers deep, or to use them as a backdrop to ornamental herbaceous plants. Shrubs will continue to grow for many years and it is advisable to check the size they will reach, and to plan for its presence in your garden, long term.
